Citizens in Mexico Form Militia to Fight Against Cartels

Lyle Rapacki BREAKING NEWS, WORLD NEWS 3 Comments

The outstanding publication Business Insider just published a series of remarkable photos depicting the growing civilian militia in Mexico, fighting against the Cartels to restore peace and order in various communities.  The task ahead of these civilians is monumental, but I think they are motivated by a thought: “If not now, when…if not them, who”?  As you will see, these vigilantes (as they are called by the Mexican authorities) are not a sophisticated professionally trained or equipped force.  But they are determined, and already have made an impact in several regions.  This civilian militias, already has made numerous arrests – of police officers who worked with the cartels!  Already they have engaged in gun battles to take back houses, streets, neighborhoods, and small communities.  The war for law and order is far from over, in fact, it is just beginning for these civilians.  While they have been engaged for close to a year now, the obstacles are many and the challenges are large and foreboding.  But they soldier on.  Not only are they having to contend with cartels which are heavily financed, sophisticatedly equipped, and well-connected politically and through police contacts these civilian soldiers are also having to stand-up to their own government who does not sanction their actions at all.

We are fortunate that Business Insider traveled to and spent time with these civilian soldiers, and was afforded the opportunity to capture the faces of those engaged in the struggle to develop normalcy throughout Mexico.

I guess these vigilantes watched as the cartels took over their country making it hell on earth for them. The good police were killed and the bad ones are aiding the cartels. What a nation in ruin. Now we have to worry about the criminals crossing the border into America since they are wide open and we pay all their bills here!

Thanks Marianne for your comment and insight. Let me say without going into much detail, there is growing concern for civil war in Mexico, as well as “spill-over” violence into southern Arizona communities. Both possibilities are being watched closely. LYLE –
