The New York Post ran a story with quite a disturbing opening line on Tuesday morning, “The nation will be shocked to learn secret details behind the capture of American sailors in Iranian waters earlier this year, a congressman said in an interview Monday.”
The confrontation in the story stems from something that happened when in Iranian waters in 2015. You remember the story. An American Navy vessel and 10 U.S. sailors were captured by the Iranian military after accidentally wandering into Iranian territorial waters while on patrol. The Iranians then paraded the sailors in front of as many cameras as they could in an effort to embarrass the United States before the world.
However, whatever embarrassment the Iranian’s hoped to inflict couldn’t come close to comparing with the embarrassment our own leaders inflicted upon us when the Obama administration chose to handle the situation like a nerd being bullied in a schoolyard. Instead of responding in strength to the Iranian assault on innocent American servicemen, President Obama marched Secretary of State John Kerry out to APOLOGIZE for our mistake and to THANK the Iranians for bullying… er, I mean treating us so nicely.
“We can all imagine how a similar situation might have played out three or four years ago,” said Kerry on Wednesday after thanking Iran for releasing the ten sailors.
The release came after Kerry and Zarif engaged in five phone calls discussing the issue. According to a top Kerry aide, the secretary of state said to Zarif “if we are able to do this in the right way, we can make this into what will be a good story for both of us.”
Zarif reportedly told Kerry during the phone calls that the U.S. should extend a formal apology for the incident before the sailors were released. According an Iranian Republican Guard Corps statement, the U.S. provided a formal apology, however, this claim remains unsubstantiated.
Now it seems that we may be preparing to hear the whole story, and before you ask, no, it’s not going to make things better, and yes, it is going to embarrass us all over again.
Details of the abduction are likely to start an uproar in the nation and call into question the Obama administration’s handling of the incident, which many experts say violated international and maritime law.
“I think that when the details actually come out, most Americans are going to be kind of taken aback by the entire incident, both how Iran handled it and how we handled it,” Forbes disclosed. “I think that’s going to be huge cause for concern for most Americans. That’s why I’ve encouraged members of Congress to get that briefing so they do know exactly what did take place.”
Forbes suggested that Iran’s treatment of the U.S. sailors—which included filming them crying and forcing them to apologize at gunpoint—may have been much worse than what has been publicly reported.
The Obama/Clinton/Kerry foreign policy continues to destabilize and endanger the world. The 2016 election was always going to be of utmost importance, and this situation only serves to underline that fact. Over the last 8 years the world has become a far more dangerous place, and while liberals have enjoyed blaming George W. Bush for our problems, the truth is that the Obama gang has created many of them by using a foreign policy based on wishful thinking. The world’s best hope is change… away from Obama and the liberal Democrat’s insane version of foreign policy.
