Nothing-I-Wanted-Receive-All-I-Need-300x290_1

A Devotion By Cheryl Zelenka

“In the morning, Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You
and wait expectantly.” Psalm 5:3 (NIV)

Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” Luke 6:12 (NKJV)

Praise God for the gift of prayer! Our Creator wants to communicate and fellowship with us. We can stand before the throne of God in an instant. When was the last time you spent some quality time with your God?

We can learn a lot from the examples given by Jesus Christ. Our Lord would pray with friends, strangers, and crowds. However, He also spent time alone in prayer. He would go off to a remote place free from distractions, and seek the counsel of His heavenly Father. Undoubtedly, He poured out His concerns and heartaches seeking comfort and guidance. I am also pretty sure He asked for wisdom.

How then would God answer a prayer for wisdom? Most likely He would send the petitioner new problems to solve. If another prayer asked for courage, how better to overcome fear than to face a new danger? This is how God trains us.

Our God is a master teacher. He knows that hands-on learning is the best way for a lesson to sink in and make sense. When we ask for the gift of love, He will surely send unkind or troubled people our way to test our ability to love. If we ask for strength, He will send us difficult times in order to build up our spiritual muscles and faith.

When you pray, think carefully about what you are requesting. God always answers prayers. It may a “NO,” “NOT NOW,” or “YES.” How God brings about the answer to your prayer may catch you off guard. He does not usually GIVE us fruits in an instant. Rather, He plants the seed we have requested (such as patience or wisdom) and tends it while watching it grow. Eventually, there will be fruit.

God trains us by storms of adversity so that we develop godly traits over time. If you are sincere in your desire to attain greater love, strength, mercy, patience, courage, and wisdom, hold on to your hat!  You are in for an incredible ride.

May you be bold and stouthearted, thankful and full of praise. Why you ask? It is because the Master Gardener will tend the soil you have been planted. He will lovingly pull the weeds that try to choke out your growth. He will harvest your fruit when it is ripe. He will smile at your efforts to please Him.

Fear not the trials and tests that come with your prayer request. You God will never leave your side. He will give you all the necessary provisions to become all He has meant for you to be.

“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.” Psalm 145:18 (NKJV)

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

Amen Cheryl, well said! God does work in mysterious ways. He will allow us to endure trials in order for us to grow and become more Christ like.

    God bless! Gordon

      Hi Gordon,
Thanks for the comment. I am all for using my trials and sufferings to encourage and help others along their way. I know He has refined me in the furnace of affliction, and will continue to do so. The wisdom gained from such trials are more precious to me than gold and silver.
